What is a merchant wholesaler? What are the different types of merchant wholesalers?
What will be an ideal response?
Most of the wholesalers in the United States are merchant wholesalers. Merchant wholesalers take title to products and then resell them to retailers, other wholesalers, or industrial users. Merchant wholesalers can either be full or limited service. Full-service wholesalers offer the widest range of services. They range from general merchandise wholesalers that carry a very wide product mix to limited-line wholesalers that only carry a few products. A specialty-line wholesaler only carries a single product line, while a rack jobber actually provides display and restocking assistance to retailers. Limited-service wholesalers only provide a few of those services. For instance, cash-and-carry wholesalers sell products such as construction items to customers for cash. Truck wholesalers deliver the product directly to the consumer and require cash payments. An organization providing vegetables to a restaurant is often a truck wholesaler. On the other hand, drop shippers never handle the products but simply take title and negotiate sales.
