argument. The student might also note that field strongly influences the audience’s expectations
about argument.

audiences have specific expectations for what type of argument they expect depending on the
occasion or type of discourse. Advocates will have more success if they can conform their
speech to match the audience’s expectations. Finally students should note that advocates can
analyze their audience, do research about the history of an issue, the local and national beliefs,
and talk to people in the community.
