Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of video realistic job previews

What will be an ideal response?

Video RJPs have several advantages. First, they are consistent. The
organization can be confident that each time the video is played, the same message will
be sent to the audience in the same way. Second, video RJPs are multimedia, reflecting
the prevalence of multimedia messages in today's society. Professionally created, video
RJPs communicate a message using sight, sound, and music: a multimedia presentation
that might be necessary to capture the attention of today's workforce. Unfortunately,
unprofessional or poorly created video RJPs can have the opposite effect.
There are also several disadvantages to video RJPs. First, professional video production is expensive and can be time-consuming. Second, video RJPs can quickly become dated.
Organizations and jobs change quickly in the world today; what might have been true
yesterday about a particular position can change tomorrow. Third, video RJPs are not
interactive. Indeed they are often considered a form of persuasive communication
(Phillips, 1998) and as such can be understood from that perspective. We know, from the
body of work in persuasion, that people are more willing to be persuaded when they are
actively involved in the process. Video, although it engages many senses, is limited in its
interactive capacity.
