Explain the doctrine of transferred intent and provide at least one hypothetical example of transferred intent

What will be an ideal response?

• When one has specific intent to accomplish a criminal purpose and, while carrying out that specific intent, inadvertently harms another instead of his intended target, the law will transfer the intent from the intended target to the person actually harmed.
• Example: A fires a gun at B, planning to kill B. The bullet misses B and hits C who is walking behind B when the shot was fired. C is killed. The law will transfer the intent to kill B to an intent to kill C.
