Describe some causes, preventive measures, and treatment for low-back pain.

What will be an ideal response?

Responses will vary; an estimated 60 to 90 percent of all Americans will suffer from chronic back pain in their lives. About 80 percent of the time, backache syndrome is preventable and is caused by physical inactivity, poor postural habits, body mechanics, excessive body weight, and/or psychological stress. Specific stretching and strengthening exercises in a regular fitness program can greatly reduce back pain. To relieve symptoms you may use over-the-counter pain relievers and hot or cold packs. You may also use a chiropractor if there is no indication of disease or injury. If pain is severe and persists even at rest, consult a physician.
