Summarize the causes of speech and language disorders

What will be an ideal response?

There are two types of speech and language disorders, classified according to cause: organic disorders caused by an identifiable problem in the neuromuscular mechanism of the person; and functional disorders that have no identifiable organic cause. The causes may originate in the nervous system, the muscular system, the chromosomes, or the formation of the speech mechanism. Organic disorders can include hereditary conditions, prenatal injuries, and infectious diseases, among others. An articulation disorder with no known cause is considered a functional disorder. In addition to classification by type of disorder, communication disorders can also be classified by when the problem began. Congenital disorders occur at or before birth and acquired disorders occur well after birth.
