Like the standardized terms used for nutrition assessment and nutrition diagnosis, intervention terminology is organized into domains such as food and/or nutrient delivery, nutrition education, nutrition counseling, and coordination of nutrition care. Food and/or nutrient delivery is an individualized approach for food/nutrient provision. Modifying the composition of meals/snacks is an example of food and/or nutrient delivery. Nutrition education is a formal process to instruct or train a patient in a skill to voluntarily manage or modify their nutritional status. Skill development is an example of nutrition education. Nutrition counseling is a supportive process characterized by a collaborative relationship to establish priorities, goals, and individual action plans. Motivational interviewing is an example of nutrition counseling. Coordination of nutrition care involves consultation with or referral to other providers and institutions. Referral to community agencies/programs is an example of coordination of nutrition care.
