A
Steppage is also known as footdrop and is the result of nerve damage. Hip and knee flexion are needed for step height in order to lift the foot off the floor. Instead of placing the heel of the foot on the floor first, the whole sole of the foot is slapped on the floor at once. Festinating gait of Parkinson's disease: patient has decreased step height and length, but increased step speed, resulting in shuffling; posture is stooped; hesitation to begin walking and to terminate walking. Trendelenburg gait is caused by muscular dystrophy or developmental dysplasia of the hip. During ambulation, the pelvis of the unaffected side drops when weight bearing is performed on the affected side. When both hips are affected, a "waddling" gait may be evident. Antalgic gait of degenerative joint disease of the hip: Limited weight bearing on the affected leg in an attempt to limit discomfort.
