In stage one, the young-old and recent retirees move to the Sunbelt (FL, CA, AZ, TX). In stage two, older adults who face a chronic illness or limitations with ADLs may move to a retirement community or an assisted living facility that offers amenities, but allows the resident to remain relatively independent. Stage three happens when an older adult faces a disability which requires that the individual move to a nursing home to receive 24-hour skilled nursing care.
