Fill in the blank(s) with correct word

Empowerment
Empowerment refers to a process whereby nurses recognize that they have legitimate power and authority to make decisions regarding their practice. There is no transfer of power, but merely a change from an external to an internal locus of control. Authority is not given or taken away. Clinicians at the point of service are given the opportunity to be an integral part of the deci-sion-making process, but even more important, they act on the opportunity and are responsible for implementing changes to improve patient care quality and the work environment. Empower-ment is accomplished through the shared governance journey.
