Discuss three "mistakes" that students make while looking for a major.
What will be an ideal response?
One mistake students make is confusing hobbies and careers. Though people might enjoy cooking, music, and films, this does not mean that they would enjoy studying these subjects in college or that they would have the talent or temperament to become a professional musician, a chef in a large restaurant, or a filmmaker. Another mistake is ruling out majors that they have never thought about. There may be some areas of study that students would truly enjoy but have overlooked until now. A third mistake is failing to change their plans when they do in fact discover something that they truly enjoy. Sometimes students don't make this discovery until later in their college careers. At that point, they sometimes prefer to finish their degree just to get out of school. A better approach might be to stay in school a little longer and study something they truly enjoy.
