Explain the importance of monitoring a student’s progress toward meeting his or her IEP goals and reporting that progress to parents.

What will be an ideal response?

It is incredibly important to monitor a student’s progress towards meeting the IEP goals because the child may have a dip in their progress or they may totally stop their progress all together. Monitoring and keeping record of their progress can help give the teachers a heads up or more insight into how this student progresses, how steady to progress is, etc. Reporting the student’s progress is incredibly important because the parent isn’t at the school like the teachers are. The parents may be completely unaware of how their child is progressing and what they are struggling with. If the parent knows, they have the ability to talk with their child about it, they may help continue to work with their child at home or provide them with additional resources (tutors), and they can even reach some kind of peace of mind knowing that their child is progressing while at school.
