The colonization that occurred as Euro-American cultures explored (and dominated) new lands and peoples. It is important to note that in many of these expeditions, the peoples and cultures from other lands were devalued and information from them ignored. Specific examples students may discuss from the text include Hawaii, Columbus' treatment of Indians, and the treatment of aboriginals in Australia.
