How can teachers determine which irregular words to teach and which to delay when preparing students for upcoming stories?

What will be an ideal response?

Words to be introduced as irregular words can be drawn from the irregular words that will appear in upcoming stories that students are to read in the core reading program. The teacher examines the words from upcoming passages to identify irregular words. If there are an overwhelming number of new irregular words in a story, the teacher should select the irregular words from the story that are most useful over words that are just unique to that particular story. During story reading, the teacher can tell the students any irregular words that have not been pretaught as they read the story.
