What is the concept of universal design and how does it apply to education (give examples of UD and of UDL)?

What will be an ideal response?

UD refers to the designing things in ways that ensure accessibility for all people, not just those with disabilities. For example, there are scissors designed to be used by both left- and right-handed people. UD buildings are easily accessible. As it became apparent that instructional materials often impeded students' progress in the general education curriculum, people began to implement UD practices in education. With UDL, instructional activities and materials make the content information accessible to all children through elements: multiple means of representation, multiple means of action and expression, and multiple means of engagement. Examples of UDL related to alternative ways for students to demonstrate knowledge include reports, portfolios, and performances.
