Apply the decision making model to this scenario: You only have 2 hours to devote to academic tasks today. You have an exam in history tomorrow and a presentation in psychology. How will you spend your time?
What will be an ideal response?
I will first focus on my goal of achieving a 4.0 overall GPA this semester. Next, I will gather information to help me decide how to spend my time. I will look at my syllabus to see how much each assignment counts. I will also have to think about how much work I've already put into studying and preparing the presentation. I will also look at the on-line gradebook to see my current grade in each course. Next, I will think about my personal strengths. I usually perform better on presentations than exams. My three main options are to spend the majority of the time studying for the test, working on the presentation, or to split the time between the two tasks. The pros of focusing on one task is that it will likely lead to a better grade on that task. However, I will probably not do as well on the task that I did not focus on. Splitting the time could lead to good academic performance on each one or it may result in neither product being very good. Since I am better at presentations and have already put a lot of time into preparing this presentation, I will devote much of the two hours I have to studying and just a small portion to reviewing the presentation. I will evaluate this course after I receive my grad on both assignments.
