What is an Event Review Committee?

How does the ERC process work?

Discussion should go toward being a group that is usually comprised of a management representative from the company, a representative from the employee group (such as a pilot or maintenance technician), an FAA representative from the Certificate Holding District Office (CHDO), and in some cases, a representative from an employee union. The ASAP Manager typically will chair meetings of the ERC but is not considered a voting member of the committee. The primary purpose of the ERC is to review and analyze reports submitted as under an ASAP, identifying safety issues and hazards, and working to generate possible corrective actions to problems identified through the reports. The ERC will determine if an ASAP report submitted should be accepted into or rejected by the ASAP program.

Discussion should go toward reviewing each report de-identified (reporter name redacted) to ascertain if the reported event was unintentional and did not involve any intentional disregard for safety, accepting or rejecting reports. Once a report is accepted into the program and all recommended corrective actions have been accepted and completed or rejected with explanation, the ERC will then close the report with a risk assessment.
