Describe patient education you would provide to a patient prescribed antacids to reduce drug interactions with antibiotics and antifungal medications.

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. Antibiotics such as tetracycline or quinolones such as ciprofloxacin (Cipro) and levofloxacin (Levaquin), antifungals such as itraconazole (Sporanox), interact with antacids. To reduce these drug interactions, tell your patient to take the antacid 2 hours before or after other medications.
