In your own words, summarize the ethical considerations of witnesses to workplace bullying. What is your position?
What will be an ideal response?
The position of each student will vary, but the summary should include:
• Recent scholarship suggests that some witnesses to workplace bullying help to reinforce or support workplace-bullying behaviors.
• Some witnesses could actually be accomplices to workplace bullying.
• Ethical questions include:
o Should the witness be required to respond in some way? Or is intervention inappropriate?
o If you do not respond to someone being bullied, are you, at minimum, passively supporting the bully? Is your silence consent for the bully to continue?
o If you intervene, will you become the new target of the bully?
