How do experiences outside of school influence adolescents' success in navigating school transitions?
What will be an ideal response?
Adolescents are most vulnerable to the negative effects of school transitions when they lack the social and emotional resources to cope with multiple stressors. Young people who report feeling supported by their families and having many friends are less bothered by day-to-day stressors and experience school transitions with few problems. Finally, as in other aspects of development, expectations matter. Adolescents who expect a positive transition to secondary school are more likely to report experiencing a positive experience and are at lower risk of school dropout.
