Answer: Mammals like humans and other creatures like birds are Endothermic, which regulate and maintain their body temperature even when the external temperature changes. Such mechanism when the internal body temperature is strictly controlled by the body irrespective of the external environment is called as Thermoregulation. In humans, the Hypothalamus is responsible for temperature regulation
This can be achieved by:
1. Vasoconstriction - The blood vessels near the skin become narrower hence ensuring that there is more blood flow to the internal body. Which in turns helps the body to be warmer.
2. Thermogenesis - The internal organs and the muscles produce heat involuntarily such as shivering.
3. Hormonal Thermogenesis - Hormones are secreted which in turn regulate the body temperature helping to keep them warm.
