Describe an individual who is in the precontemplation stage.

What will be an ideal response?

Precontemplators deny they have a problem, work hard to resist change, and stay in a place of ignorance. They avoid conversation about it, disregard information presented to them about the problem, and often think others are the problem. If they present for therapy, it is because friends and family members have coerced or nagged the individual into going. Some precontemplators may indicate that they wish they could change without having any or intention to do so. If they change their behavior, it usually to appease criticisms of others.
