What does "carrying capacity" mean? Some have defined it as "the number that can be supported long term without damage to the environment." Is this a reasonable definition? Why or why not?

What will be an ideal response?

If the amount of use by a species is less than the carrying capacity, the ecosystem
can sustain the species indefinitely. If the use exceeds the carrying capacity, the ecosystem
suffers, and may indeed suffer permanent impairment.
