Describe the process of ketone production and its consequences

An untreated client with diabetes is unable to metabolize carbohydrates for energy. Excessive fats are broken down to be used for energy, and consequently the liver produces ketones from the fatty acid metabolism. The fats are broken down rapidly, allowing ketones to collect in the blood. The ketones are acids that lower the blood pH and result in ketoacidosis.
