Students move from the non-accurate stage, in which student energy is devoted to decoding and attempts are not always accurate, to the accuracy stage, where students are able to accurately decode words but do not read smoothly or at an appropriate rate. Finally student move to the automatic stage in which students read fluently and accurately with appropriate rate and phrasing.
