In asking whether larger systems, organizations, and human societies are self- making networks, Burke offers numerous parallels and analogies. Explain three of them.

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: Organizations and societies have boundaries like membranes. These boundaries
are largely social but can be nevertheless defined. Organizational change typically is
initiated by a stimulation or perturbation in the external environment beyond that
boundary. All on these disturbances with some internal changes are patterns of
operation that will remain essentially the same. They rarely change their pattern.
Organizations interact with their external environments in a manner, influencing and
being influenced in the process much the same way as systems maintain themselves
constant commerce with their environment sit cells take in energy from the external
environment and dispose of waste to the external environment though. The disposition
of waste could include products and services as well as access resources.
Organizational members are members of a larger society and culture and therefore
bring these patterns into organizations pattern networks that become nested within
networks. The web-like quality of cells is totally congruent with open system thinking
and supports the ideas underlying the Burke Litwin model of organizational performance
and change to support the organization as a whole.
