In your opinion, what could have been done better and how would you evaluate the overall change process?
What will be an ideal response?
? The results (+30% sales) and the analysis above indicate that Kim Winser
managed to successfully implement change at Pringle. It has been a focused
change effort.
? The case does not provide much detail on Kim’s communication efforts. A
general meeting is surely not enough to communicate a change direction.
Students could mention several additional communication efforts to strengthen
the change direction (face-to-face conversations, open door policies, emails,
workshops, newsletters, etc.).
? Dealing with resistance: Kim waited some time to react to senior executives
resisting the change. While it worked in the Pringle case, students could identify
the risks of ignoring complainers for too long (i.e. they may form a resistance
coalition, create confusion, undermine authority, etc.). It may be argued that Kim
took a great risk in only focusing on those senior executives who were willing to
support her change direction.
