Designers use lines, also known as rule, to help set off sections of the design or guide the reader from element to element. Designers sometimes refer to this guiding through the design as rhythm. To develop a standard format, a designer uses repetition when creating a multipage design. Page format involves column width, margins, major and sub-headings, and text type styles. The designer may decide to place photographs in consistent positions or use a unique symbol to draw attention to important information.
