Identify and explain the problems often associated with self-reports by prisoners

What will be an ideal response?

First, convicted prisoners do not represent all criminals. Multiple offenders and "unsuccessful" criminals are overrepresented. Second, even a representative sample does not guarantee accuracy. Some prisoners exaggerate their "expertise" and minimize the harm they inflicted on their victims. Many do not trust the researchers or just want to "play games" to relieve the monotony of life in prison. Also, no matter what promises of confidentiality interviewers make, many prisoners still believe what they say will affect their chances for release. So they paint the best possible picture of themselves.
