Identify the three basic attitudes a student can have. Discuss the role attitude plays in learning. Be specific, and give examples of different attitude types.

What will be an ideal response?

There are three basic types of attitudes: negative, coping, and positive. Learners with a negative attitude are always complaining and making excuses about their abilities. They are the ones who blame the instructor when they do poorly on a test. Those with a coping attitude find a way to deal with their situations. Though they may feel negative, they try to cope. For example, if an instructor assigns a lot of homework the same night as a play rehearsal, coping learners would figure out times between scenes to do some reading. They also might go to bed later or get up earlier to finish their work. Learners with a positive attitude just deal with anything in a positive way. They say things like "no problem," or "sure," and always find ways to get things done.
