Explain how you would use propane to find vacuum leaks.

What will be an ideal response?

Low pressure propane may be used to locate the source of vacuum leaks. First the engine compartment should be inspected for sources of ignition in and around the engine compartment. With the engine running, small amounts of propane should be directed to points where possible leaks may occur. If propane is introduced to a vacuum leak, the idle will change because of the introduction of an extra fuel source to the engine. You should remove and reapply propane a few times to verify your first finding.
