Why is this emphasis on extra-curricular education so prolific among parents in this day and age?
What will be an ideal response?
The competition to achieve in schools, colleges and universities is rife. From an early age, many parents want their children to go to the best schools possible, but are often restricted by either finance (private schools cost money) or geographic location (some schools operate a ‘catchment’ system). So grammar schools, which are effectively selective state schools (selective on academic ability) become sought after. Primary schools (the feeders for sec?ondary school) are usually ill-equipped to deal with students who have these aspirations to go to a grammar school. And so many parents don’t have a choice but to engage the services of extra-curricular education in order for their children to learn all the material needed for entrance exams.
