One factor that determines the size and cost of a PLC is its I/O capacity. Many small units may be intended to handle as few as 16 input and output devices. Large PLCs can generally handle several hundred. The number of input and output devices the controller must handle also affects the processor speed and amount of memory the CPU must have.

Mating parts are fastened where one feature has a through hole for the fastener to pass through and the other feature is threaded to accept the fastener thread, and have a variety of head types and range in diameter from .060 in. to 4 in. Lengths vary with diameter. For example, lengths increase in 1/16-in. increments for diameters up to 1 in. For diameters larger than 1 in., lengths increase in increments of 1/8 in. or 1/4 in.
