What are emoticons used for? When are emoticons appropriate, and when are they not?
What will be an ideal response?
The use of emoticons, a textual expression of emotions, is how we show our feelings in the digital world. In a text message, personal e-mail, or a Facebook status, emoticons are completely appropriate for the situation. In professional e-mails or memos to professors, coworkers, or bosses, emoticons are not appropriate. A good rule of thumb is that emoticons work best when they are used in interactions that once occurred primarily face to face.
