Discuss the different approaches to change taken by Martin’s three types of organizational cultures.
What will be an ideal response?
In integrated organization, members hold broad consensus on organizational values and practices. Change takes longer because everyone has to be brought on board for the culture to change, and consensus processes take longer. In differentiated cultures, the organization is a collection of subcultures. There is not the assumption that everyone will share the same values and norms. Change happens more rapidly, yet change may not be uniform across the organization. In fragmented cultures, the organization expects and values a multiplicity of perspectives, and change and ambiguity are seen as the norm in the culture, so the organizations are more adaptable to rapid and constant change.
