What will be the likely state of private prisons two or three decades from now? Why are privately run prisons being phased out of the federal system?

What will be an ideal response?

In 2016, the Department of Justice ordered the federal Bureau of Prisons to stop the federal use of private prisons. According to the DOJ, there were several reasons why private prisons were to be phased out. First, private prisons do not provide the same level of correctional services, programs and resources as government-run facilities. Second, they do not save substantially on costs. Third, they do not maintain the same level of safety and security.

If states follow the lead of the federal justice system, then the use of private prisons may decline significantly over the next few decades.
