What is the relationship of children’s home languages to their early literacy learning? How will this impact your teaching of young children?

It is the basis of oral language as families interact with their young children. Even when children are speaking English at school, it is beneficial for parents to assist in their literacy development in their home language. It is deleterious to literacy development if families limit their interactions fearing that home language will confuse the child.
