• HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. It's a federal government program designed to promote security of individual's information on the Internet.
• This legislation addresses many goals and objectives including guaranteed security and privacy of health information. It provides new protection for workers and their families who may have pre existing medical conditions and could suffer discrimination when seeking health coverage.
• Employers and other health care providers are required to incorporate privacy provisions.
