Thus, cumulative risk may predict outcomes better than looking at individual risk.These cumulative risk models can inform attempts to identify families at risk of neglect before the maltreatment occurs. Programs such as the one in the Netherlands called Structured Problem Analysis of Raising Kids (SPARK) or the California Family Risk Assessment have been able to positively predicted substantiated reports of maltreatment over the next 2 years. Since the screening programs are accurate, resources and prevention programs can be targeted at high risk families before the neglect occurs in an attempt to prevent it.
