Newer teachers often enter the profession with high expectations for their performance, often, new teachers think they should be as skilled as master teachers with many years of experience. Issues of maintaining classroom discipline, motivating students, responding to student differences, assessing students' work, adequate planning/preparation time, and unreasonable class sizes are common concerns raised by new teachers. Mentoring relationships with more experienced teachers are often desired by newer teachers and can prevent teachers from leaving the profession.
