What will be an ideal response?

Stress is a major factor that impacts police officers due to the complexity of their role, the need to exercise prudent discretion, the threat of having to use violence and having violence used against them, and isolation from the rest of society. Job-related stress can undermine an officer's enthusiasm and commitment to their role and can cause burnout. Some of the causes of stress include 24-hour duty, poor training, and department politics as well as job dissatisfaction, substandard equipment, inadequate pay, lack of opportunity, role conflict, exposure to brutality, and fears about incompetence, success, and safety. Research has found that the more support an officer receives in the workplace, the lower their feelings of stress and anxiety. As a result, many departments are providing stress training for officers, which can include stress management as part of an overall wellness program. The focus of this training can include diet information, biofeedback, relaxation and meditation, and exercise. Some programs include family members to help them better understand the difficulties of police work and offer support.
