Academic learning disabilities frequently have their roots in the developmental learning disabilities such as attention, perception, and language. Explain why a learner with deficits in one or more of these developmental areas might have later difficulties learning to read and write

What will be an ideal response?

Answer:
Perceptual skills provide the foundation for many academic skills. Reading requires the learner to visually discriminate among various letter and word forms, make auditory associations between the sound of a letter and the letter name, and blend sounds into words. In order to write, the learner needs to visualize the letter shape and integrate the movements with that visual image. Deficits in any of the separate visual, auditory, or perceptual-motor skills will impede the process of learning to read and write.
