Briefly explain the role of caregivers for six-to eight-year-olds.
What will be an ideal response?
Adults who work with six- to eight-year-olds in before and after-school programs must provide a safe, nurturing climate. Caregivers should provide materials appropriate for the expanding interests of this group and allow children enough independence to pursue these in their own way. At the same time, adults should be available as a resource and to provide guidance and limits. Particularly after school, children also need opportunities to expend energy through large motor activity and games, which adults can arrange.
