Explain why memories for (a) playing a guitar, (b) knowing the names of ten famous guitarists, and (c) the time you toured the Gibson Guitar Plant in Memphis are all different types of long-term memories; and describe how and where they are stored in the brain

What will be an ideal response?

Answer will include that long-term memory is divided into procedural or skill memories and declarative or fact memories with the fact memories being subdivided into semantic memories and episodic memories. Procedural memories would include the learned motor activities of playing a guitar and are stored in the basal ganglia and cerebellum of the brain. The declarative memories, or fact memories, are stored by way of the hippocampus into areas of the brain cortex. Semantic memories for the impersonal information, such as the names of the ten guitarists, are stored in the back portion of the cortex. Personal memories, such as your trip to the Gibson Guitar Plant in Memphis, are episodic memories and are stored in the front portion of the cortex.
