Describe the advantages and disadvantages of relative grading standards

Absolute grading standards are grades given according to a student's rank in his or her class or grade. Relative grading standards have the advantage of placing students' scores in relation to one another. A disadvantage is that the number of A’s and B’s are held constant, so students in a class of high achievers must get higher scores to earn and A or B than students in low achieving classes.
