According to Froebel, what should the teacher’s role be in educating young children? Give an example of how you could apply Froebel’s ideas within the classroom.
What will be an ideal response?
Froebel believed that teachers should be facilitators of children’s learning. That is, teachers should be designers of activities and experiences that arouse and use children’s natural curiosity. He also saw teachers as responsible for directing and guiding students toward becoming contributing members of society. Examples will vary, but an example of how a student might apply Froebel’s ideas in the classroom would be to introduce “play” into the classroom and let children explore ideas and concepts through natural play. Since Froebel sees play as the “work of the child,” allowing children to play, for example, a “restaurant manager” in a play kitchen could help the child develop communication and interaction skills.
