What are the key contributions of the Adverse Childhood Experiences study that have impacted the child maltreatment prevention field?

What will be an ideal response?

The ACE study documented a relationship between early trauma and some leading causes of death in the United States. These have been used to raise public awareness and prevent child maltreatment from occurring in the first place. The ACE study created a movement that joined communities together to raise awareness and integrate ACE research into trauma-informed policies and practices across service sectors. ACE helped research and practice communities glean a better understanding of how prolonged exposure to stress elevates stress hormones in the body and how these hormones change or alter connections in the brain. The prevention community has used this to advocate for services in early childhood.
