Answer: Teens face pressures of peer, increased independence, establishing their identities, increased responsibilities (work, sports, school) etc. Factors-body image, can lead to disordered eating to lose weight, gain muscle. Athletics and physical performance-restricted or unbalanced diets in hopes of improving performance or achieving certain wt. can have lasting effects. (lower bone density). Substance use-diets of alcohol abusers are poor and metabolize nutrients differently /have increased needs , malnutrition and growth stunting can result, drugs -cocaine (overrides desire to eat), smoking decreases appetite, marijuana (increases snacking)
