Uneven sets:
Put out 10 bears and give the child 6 lima beans or counters. Ask the child to "give every bear a bean (counter)." Listen to the child's response when he or she notices that there are not enough beans.
4. Joined sets:
Put out 8 bears and show how to connect each bear with a toothpick and a bean. Ask the child to complete the task, starting from the child's left (see Figure 5.11).
