Discuss how the perception of one’s circumstances was shaped entirely by one’s diagnosis.

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. Once a diagnosis is given, others expect that person to be that diagnostic label. Even when an individual does not exhibit symptoms, the label continues. The label influences not only the patient, but also family, friends, and one’s social network. All of this can become a self-fulfilling prophecy for the patient and his or her social network.
